Darlene's piece was stitched
on Newcastle Cream (40 count). On this linen
you'll need Perle Cotton #12 and Tatting
Cotton (Dentelles). The Tatting Cotton does not come in a
great deal of colors so if you choose to do it
in another color you can use Soie 100/3 as a
substitute. As of August 2019, DMC has discontinued making the Dentelles. We still have some left in Blanc, Ecru and Black, but when that runs out you would need to convert that thread to Soie 100/3.
If you choose to stitch your sampler on
another count you will need to change the size
of the threads as well as the quantities
required. Other thread options include solid
silk perles (e.g. Soie Perlee, Soie Gobelins,
Silk Bella) or tone-on-tone silk perles (e.g.
Gloriana Petite Princess Perle and Dinky Dyes
Silk Perle). If you choose to stitch with a
hand-dyed thread, tone-on-tone works best so
your thread color change doesn't fight with
the complexity of the design. Let your

You can stitch this on many hand-dyed
