Darlene's piece was stitched
on 35 count cream linen using
Au ver a Soie Soie d'Alger silk,
DMC Special Dentelle and
DMC Perle #12. As the 35 count linen Darleen used is no longer made we suggest Legacy 37 count Russian Tea Cake, which works well with the Ecru colors. The Dentelle (Tatting Cotton) is no longer made so we suggest
Au ver a Soie Soie 100/3 as the substitute.
If you choose to stitch your sampler on
another count you will need to change the size
of the threads as well as the quantities
required. Other thread options include solid
silk perles (e.g. Soie Perlee, Soie Gobelins,
Silk Bella) or tone-on-tone silk perles (e.g.
Gloriana Petite Princess Perle and Dinky Dyes
Silk Perle). If you choose to stitch with a
hand-dyed thread, tone-on-tone works best so
your thread color change doesn't fight with
the complexity of the design. Let your
imagination (and thread availability) be your
guide.

You can stitch this on many hand-dyed
linens, but keep the
mottling to a minimum
since this is a very detailed design.
Linda Vinson of Needle Made Designs has also published her stitch guide for this design as she took Darlene's class way back in 2000. She has changes to the colors and some additional threads and embellishments. We recommend that your read her stitch guide and determine what additional items you might want to purchase.
