If you've not been in the SF Bay Area for awhile you might not know how warm and dry our weather has been. Usually our rainy season starts in December but we've had precious few drops so far this season. For most of that time it's been sunny and warmer than usual although we are hoping for rain late next week. But it's only a hope at this point since the forecast is only minimally promising on that front. I'm personally a fan of rain and while I enjoy my sunny days, having it be 68 degrees in January is confusing both me and my plants! And I know many of you are like me in that you prefer to stitch in inclement weather. So here's hoping for RAIN!

Have you called the shop and wanted to leave a message after hours? I'm sorry to say you can't at the moment. Our 12 year old phone system is off at the repair shop and we've had to resort to corded phones without an answering machine. For a techie like me this is almost like going back to the stone age. Well, not quite. That would be the 1980's vintage Princess phone sitting on the mail order desk so we can answer the alternate phone line. Anyway, we're awaiting the verdict on whether the system can be fixed or not. Which leads to...

Can You Hear Me? Sale

Last year we had fun with our Keep Us Warm sale when we had a big cash outlay for the new heating system. This year it's looking like we have to replace the phone system so it seemed like a sign for fun January sale.

You don't need a coupon but you do need to mention the Can You Hear Me? sale to get the discount on your next project's supplies. Get 25% off fabric, threads, charts, canvases and embellishments through the end of January (basically the items you need for a new project). As usual the sale is for in-stock items only. There is no limit on the number of times you can purchase included items, but you do need to mention the Can You Hear Me? sale to get your discount. Think of it as a somewhat secret sale :-).

Alphabet
AnciensOuvrages de DamesLast week I mentioned we received out of the wonderful French alphabet and motif books that we'd not had a some time. After a conversation with my friend Jean at Attic Needlework, the Alphabet Anciens we received is a new version, not the original. It's got new motifs and alphabets in it. The original version is now part of Ouvrages des Dames along with two other out of print Véronique Maillard books.

I have updated the online book catalog to include the things we typically order these days and removed a number of books we can no longer obtain. We don't stock as many books as we used to purely for financial reasons, but we're happy to order a book for you if we can obtain it from one of our usual sources. If you don't find a book you're looking for in the online book catalog feel free to check with us.

Shining Needle
KimonoI have finally pulled the colors for my version of the Shining Needle Society Kimono project taught by John Waddell. Just follow the link above and you'll find info on how to sign up for SNS (it's not affiliated with the shop, just a great place to take online classes). I did confirm with John this week that they will continue to take sign-ups for this class throughout 2012.

My colors are purple, green & gold on Khaki congress cloth (click on the photo to see the full-sized version). I've added some copper and aqua metallic to go with hints of those colors in the over-dyes I'm using. We start the project next month so I'm just about ready - waiting for my outline thread to come in.

For those of you who we regularly ship to, note that the USPS has a rate change that goes into effect on January 22nd. I'm still sorting out the impact to what we usually ship but it looks like everything goes up a bit - no real surprise there.

Have a great week and find some time to stitch!

Happy Stitching,
