Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a great holiday season and had fun celebrating the beginning of 2008. I usually spend New Year's Eve with my husband Carl, just hanging out while we catch up on something we've TiVo'd (we have 4 TiVo and 2 HD Receivers so there's always something to watch). This year it was catching up on some Inspector Lynley mysteries one of the TiVos has been holding onto for months. Given the current writer's strike we may have plenty of time to catch up on the rest! I know many of you wonder if I have time to stitch and I do stitch at night - usually while watching TV. For me, the technology of TiVo and our HD DVRs means I can watch what I want any time and I usually tend to pick something I can stitch by if my eyes aren't too tired for stitching. My favorites are the mystery shows (like CSI, NCIS, Bones, etc.) but I'm also a big fan of the new Pushing Daisies series (partly because I love to hear Jim Dale narrate). I do still find time to read as well, usually a book or two a week (including one this week that made mention of Levens Hall). Unfortunately baking seems to be the hobby that never gets enough time, much to Carl and my staff's dismay. Perhaps that should be one of my new year's resolutions :-).

Levens Hall Leaf Motif

We still have some room in Philippa Turnbull's class and lecture this Sunday, January 6th. The workshop is a design based on a chair cover at Levens Hall in Cumbria England. The class is 9:30-3:30 ($140) and the lecture 4:00-5:00 ($25). The kit, lunch, lecture and use of a hands-free stand are included in the class fee. The lecture fee is only for those not attending the class. Phillipa will not be able to teach for us in 2009 so won't be back until 2010. Be sure to catch her in this weekend!

January Trunkshow

Painted Pony Designs is a hand-painted needlepoint designer. One of their most popular lines are the Angels with Charms, featuring holidays, sports, cities, hobbies and other fun activities. This trunkshow will be in the shop through mid-January.

Sale Items

We have put several items on sale in the shop and on the website and will be adding more this month. As we are carrying more of Lakeside Linen's fabrics we will no longer be stocking most R&R fabrics, with the exception of a few 30, 35 and 40 count colors. Those we still have as yardage are on sale (50% - 75% off) and we have made Grab Bags of lots of them for $5. R&R is not going out of business, in fact they have a retail store of their own, but we have decided to concentrate on other hand-dyed fabrics. We are also no longer going to be stocking JL Walsh threads so they are on sale for 50% off. We are stocking more Rainbow Gallery threads as well as the full range of Burmilana and need to make room for them as well as others we're considering adding to our inventory. You'll find details on our Sale page and we'll post to the Blog and the Sale page as we add other items to the sale.

What's New on the Horizon

Be sure to check out our What's New Blog!
CA Wells will be here February 23rd & 24th with 3 new projects. The Mermaid Purse kits are here for pre-stitching and have been sent to those already registered. I should have the other 2 projects posted in the next week or so, as soon as the pieces arrive and I can take photos of them. Stay tuned...
Debi, Caroline and I will be attending the Long Beach TNNA show next weekend. This is one of the major markets we go to during the year and is where we see many of our needlepoint designers (and a few counted-thread ones as well). Debi and Caroline are taking 2 days of classes before the show where they learn new techniques, work with new products and just have some fun (I get to take a couple as well). While we do a lot of walking during the 3 day show, it's a place we go to get new ideas, visit with friends and get jazzed about the coming year's products. So there will be many more new things coming our way.

I have mad a minor change to our store hours effective this week. For at least the winter months we'll be open Sunday from 1-4pm. We get most of our customers in the store in the middle of the hours we're open and very few after 4pm. If you need to come later, just give us a call and we'll see if we can stay a bit later for you.

Happy New Year!
