Greetings!

We had a wonderful visit with Giulia Manfreddi the end of July and got to see some new pieces she'll be releasing this fall. Several stitchers got to meet her and she talked a bit about how much needlework means to her. Giulia (who is a surgeon in Italy) very much enjoys sharing her love of needlework with stitchers around the world. We are so happy she came to visit us and I know everyone who came, enjoyed her visit with us.

One of our local guilds has an exhibition going on at the Main branch of the Alameda Free Library. It should be there for the next week, with a possibility of it being there a bit longer (so sayet the library person I spoke with). If you're in Alameda in the next few days do stop by the library (corner of Lincoln & Oak) and see it.

You can see most of these via the Hoffman Distributing Merchant Mall catalog. If you go the New Books section you can see what they added in any month and we pick up a number of those new designs. Or you can order one you might not have seen mentioned.

We also have new issues of Cross-Stitch & Needlework, Tea Time, Embroidery & Cross-Stitch and Sampler & Antique Needlework Quarterly.

At the show in January we ordered 3 hand-made frames that are paired with specific needlepoint canvases (from Maggie Co. & Ewe & Eye). They arrived last week and are too fun for words. These are definitely unique pieces (click on the thumbnail for a larger photo).

BoINK As I mentioned in the last newsletter, Tracy from Ink Circles has released a very unique multi-part project that's available for free from her website. It's called the Book of Ink Circles - more commonly called BoInk. If you like Celtic designs this is a fabulous piece you should check out.

The charts will be released only on her website and you pick the fabric and thread colors. I'm planning to set up a stitch group in the fall for the project so those interested can get together and work on it in a group setting. If you're interested in a BoInk Stitch Group, let me know. Be sure to check out the Ink Circles website and download your copy today. We have lots of fabric and threads to choose from for this unique piece. I have progressed as far as printing out the current charts and putting them in binder. Next up will be fabric and thread selection!

Gilded DragonflyIf you have not already purchsaed the Just Nan limited edition kits Barnabee's Bride or the Gilded Dragonfly we still have a few left. We keep reordering the silk threadpacks for the Gilded Dragonfly so if we will order more as needed. You can order the kit or the extra dragonfly charms through our on-line catalog.

We have sold out of last year's Lady Scarlet's Secret Garden as well as our allotment of the Over The Top tin series.

We are continuing to take pre-orders for the Just Cross-Stitch 2008 Ornament issue. We did receive the September/October 2008 issue last week, which features a new Halloween segment. You can pre-order the Ornament issue or order any of the current issues through our on-line catalog.

Loose Feathers #31Blackbird Designs - booklets #29 - 31 are out now for the 2008 Loose Feathers Club and there will be 3 more this year. We are doing an auto for this and you can sign-up for the auto either through the on-line catalog or by giving us a call. We also do fabric and thread for the designs as well so you can purchase a silk or cotton thread pack. We'll hand match the silk colors to the cotton ones the design calls for. Signing up will start you with the first booklet (#29) and will continue for all six booklets.

I don't know about you but I'm very grateful for my HD DVRs during the Olympics. I love being to stitch (or work on my newsletter) and have the option of both skipping the plethora of commercials as well as backing up to catch that last little bit I missed (while paying more attention to my work than to the TV). I've watched a little that wasn't in HD but I must confess, I really like the HD difference.

Rachele had a baby boy at the beginning of the month and both she and Timothy James are doing well. We've not seen him yet, except via photos, but we're all looking forward to seeing him in person. I wonder how long it will take before we can get him hooked on stitching?

Happy Stitching,

Cathe
