Happy May Day,
Mother's Day and other May greetings.
Do you ever have a couple of weeks where
you think perhaps you should have never left the bed? It started out with
replacing the disk drives in two of my computers, then I had two of the
planters in front of the store stolen (kind of compliment but really a bummer).
Next was the final demise of our 20 year fridge at home (which had a water leak
and now we're dealing with the mold problem it caused) to be follwed by a
fender bender my husband was in the morning the fridge was taken away. We now
understand what the crumple zone is for - he's fine but the car needs quite a
bit of work. Fortunately I had several needlework projects and copious amounts
of tea to help me de-stress. Although I'm thinking I might need a lot more
chocolate before it all gets resolved...Or perhaps I need to spend more time
fondling my silk threads (I've already been saying many thanks that he wasn't
hurt)! |

For the entire month of May we are featuring a
trunkshow from Laura J. Perin.
We have several of her models from the Quilt, Impressionists and Collage
collections for you to see in person as well as the charts to go with them. Any
chart purchases or orders for Laura's designs during the trunkshow will receive
a discount. You can see all of Laura's designs on her
website.
Laura will be at the shop for a
Meet-n-Greet on Saturday, May 16th from 1-4pm. There is no charge for this,
just come, meet Laura and check our her amazing designs! If you've stitched one
of her pieces and want to show it off, bring it with you.
Don't forget we are continuing our late
Tuesday hours through the end of May so if you have one evening we're open
until 8pm. More time to shop or to come stitch for a bit. And we have free
Wi-Fi for when you or your non-stitcher companion need to use it. |
Weekly Special
Our current Weekly Special is Zweigart

purchased some of this linen from Zweigart at a special price and are enhancing
the already great price of $16/yd with the additional savings. The Pastel Linen

The
Sales page contains an item
you can add to your shopping cart if you are ordering on-line that will include
a note about that particular Weekly Special. Be sure to mention it when you
place your phone order or pay at the register. Remember, Weekly Specials are
good on for what we have in-stock and unless otherwise noted, do not earn
Rewards points. I update the Sales page,
blog and send a
Tweet for each Weekly Special.

Gumnuts Grab Bags
We have bagged up all our remaining Gumnuts
threads and they are now available as Grab Bags. While you can't specify colors
we did try to keep color families together in the grab bags so you should get a
couple of color families with 2-4 shades in most grab bags. You'll find them on
our Sales page along with a
way to order them. Or you can give us a call or e-mail us. |
Maker Faire
Maker
Faire is where craft, art and technology seem to meet. It's a once a year
event held at the San Mateo Fairgrounds and is for those who like things a bit
outside of the box. Our trade association TNNA, will be having a booth at the
event and wants to feature the traditional needlearts (with a twist) at the
event. We're looking for volunteers to help demonstrate cross-stitch during the
2-day event.
Maker Faire is on May 30, 31 and they
expect between 80,000-100,000 people during the two days. We would like to get
6-8 volunteers each day May 30, (10am-8pm) and May 31 (10am-5pm) in
perhaps two shifts. Each volunteer will receive a free ticket where they can
enjoy the Maker Faire for the time they are not volunteering. There is free
parking for volunteers.
I'm working on a simple project to be
stitched on window screening to show those interested at the event, how to
cross-stitch and what fun it can be. This won't be a charted design, just a
simple free-form cross-stitch piece on a non-traditional "fabric".
If you are interested in volunteering for
either day please contact me at the shop. It should be a really fun event.

Zweigart has re-introduced two
colors of 18 count Mono Canvas they discontinued some time ago. Available again
are Apricot and Butter Cream. You'll find the Apricot and Butter Cream in our
online
catalog. Their newest color, released in January is a black and white
canvas, with black on the warp and white on the weft. From a distance it looks
grey. It works best when the design has been painted on the canvas since
reading the canvas to stitch is hard otherwise. But it's certainly a new unique
look.
Linens by Design, who dye what most
people still refer to as Birds of a Feather Linen, have released 40 count
linen. It comes in the same colors as the 28, 32 and 36 count linens. You'll
find the 40 count BOF linens in our
online
catalog.
Fleur de Paris, who is a needlework
distributor has released a new wool thread that many are using as a replacement
for DMC's discontinued Medici. Bellalusso is a 100% merino wool
thread, about the same thickness as Medici but much, much softer. It
comes in quite a few colors and for now we've picked up a few of them (white,
black, navy, some greens, etc.). A 45 yard skein is $3.00. |

Starting Saturday May 16th the Farmer's
Market we have on Tuesday expands to Saturday and is relocating to the parking
lot near us on Haight. To help with parking on Saturday the management at the
Hawthorne Suites at Pacific and Webster (1 block from the shop) is allowing
NIAH customers to park there. We're not sure how much of an impact the market
will be for parking, but this way we've got the bases covered, especially on
those days we have an event or class. The Farmer's Market is open from 9:30am -
1pm Tuesday and Saturday and if you want to do a little market shopping when
you visit the shop you can stash your market purchases in our kitchen. Great
food and great stitching - what fun!
Happy Stitching, Cathe ...and
Debi, Leila, Jennifer, Mary, Ali, Caroline, Sherry, Susan and Margaret
Remember our Grab Bag for Food Donations
offer - bring in non-perishable food items for donation and get a chart grab
