Greetings,
If you read the newsletter last week
you'll know of my tribulations with all things hardware related recently. I'm
still dealing with the aftermath of re-installing XP on to new drives but the
car is at the repair place awaiting new parts (hood, bumper, etc.) so things
are on the mend. Hopefully we can get the fridge cabinet replaced this next
week so the new fridge can get delivered (the joys of mold are not to be
mentioned). Thank heaven for tea and stitching time!!! |

Please remember that
Laura J. Perin
will be at the shop for a Meet-n-Greet this Saturday the 16th from 1-4pm. We
hope you'll come, meet Laura and check our her amazing designs! If you've
stitched one of her pieces and want to show it off, do bring it with you. If
you have chart you'd like her to sign, bring that as well. We'll have some tea
and treats for everyone.
For the rest of May we are featuring a trunkshow from
Laura and
she has kindly loaned us several of her models from the Quilt, Impressionists
and Collage collections for you to see in person. And we have the charts to go
with them. Any chart purchases or orders for Laura's designs during the
trunkshow will receive a discount. You can see all of Laura's designs on her
website.
Don't forget we are continuing our late
Tuesday hours through the end of May so if you have one evening we're open
until 8pm. More time to shop or to come stitch for a bit. And we have free
Wi-Fi for when you or your companions need to use it. |
Weekly Special
We sold out of our Weekly Special this week
and it's time for another one. Through May 24th we'll be featuring more fabric
(things we'd like to help find a home for outside of the shop). All of our
Wichelt
Betsy
Ross Linen (aka Linen Hardanger), Wichelt Heatherfield,
Wichelt
Linen
Silk and Zweigart Lincoln
are on sale for 30% off their normal price. Wichelt has been paring down
many of their fabrics so many of these will no longer be available once our
inventory is gone. You'll find these fabrics in our
on
line catalog or you can give us a call to place an order. Minimum purchase
is a quarter yard (if we have only a bit of something we'll let you know).
The
Sales page contains an item
you can add to your shopping cart if you are ordering on-line that will include
a note about that particular Weekly Special. You MUST MENTION the Weekly
Special when you place your phone order or pay at the register. Remember,
Weekly Specials are good on for what we have in-stock and unless otherwise
noted, do not earn Rewards points. I update the
Sales page,
blog and send a
Tweet for each Weekly Special.

Gumnuts Grab Bags
We still have some of our Gumnuts Grab
Bags. We did try to keep color families together in the grab bags so you should
get a couple of color families with 2-4 shades in most grab bags. You'll find
them on our Sales page
along with a way to order them. Or you can give us a call or e-mail
us. |
Maker Faire
We have a few volunteers for Maker Faire
and are looking for a few more. Maker
Faire is where craft, art and technology meet, sometimes into really
intriguing pieces. Held at the San Mateo Fairgrounds it's for those who like
things a bit outside of the box. Our trade association TNNA, will be having a
booth at the event and wants to feature the traditional needlearts (with a
twist) at the event. We're looking for volunteers to help demonstrate
cross-stitch during the 2-day event.
Maker Faire is May 30 (10am-8pm) and 31
(10am-6pm) and they expect between 80,000-100,000 people during the two days.
You can come for all or part of the day. Each volunteer will receive a free
ticket where they can enjoy the Maker Faire for the time they are not
volunteering and there is free parking for volunteers.
You'll be showing interested attendees how
to cross-stitch using simple project stitched on window screening. We'd like to
show people not familiar with needlework what fun it can be. This won't be a
charted design, just a simple free-form cross-stitch piece on a non-traditional
"fabric".
If you are interested in volunteering for
either day please contact me at the shop. It should be a really fun event and
one I think many of you would enjoy. |

Just Nan's second release in the
Over The Top Tin Club has been shipped. We still have room on our
sign-up list for the 2009 series so if you missed signing up earlier, you can
still do so. Just call us or go to the
Over
The Top Tin Club page.
We have had several customers looking for
Lavender & Lace Needlepaints and we're unable to get them at
the moment. There was apparently some kind of production problem with them and
we do not have an ETA for when we will be receiving more of them. If you're
looking to do a L&L piece just know you might have to either hunt a bit to
find them, or be patient.
If you ever wonder why you sometimes wait
quite a bit for hand-dyed items please remember that most of the companies who
create these lovely pieces are very small. In many cases there is only one dyer
and perhaps a staff or 1 or 2 to help with shipping and such. For fabric dyers,
most have had trouble getting fabric from Zweigart for the past several months
so if they don't have fabric, they can't dye it for us. We think that might
improve by fall due to some production changes - at least that's the hope. Be
sure to allow plenty of time for your project if you're set on a particular
thread or fabric. It's not always a problem getting these items, but just know
that planning ahead can be most helpful. |

Starting this weekend the Farmer's Market
expands to Saturday in the parking lot near us on Haight. On Saturdays you can
park at the Hawthorne Suites at Pacific and Webster (1 block from the shop).
They have kindly extended this offer only to our customers (not all the other
businesses). The Farmer's Market runs from 9:30am - 1pm Tuesday and Saturday
and if you want to do a little market shopping when you visit the shop you can
stash your market purchases in our kitchen. And come visit Laura J. Perin this
Saturday as well for a complete day of great fun!
Happy Stitching, Cathe ...and
