End of May Greetings,

Well things in my life are back to some semblance of normality, or at least what passes for normal :-). The car has been repaired and passed all it tests so we have it back now. The fridge cabinet and wall got repaired from the water damage (and mold) and the new fridge got delivered yesterday. It's so nice having a fridge actually in the kitchen. We appreciated the loaner in the garage but somehow it's so much nicer having it where you want to use it. All the minor tribulations in life are why I created the following tag for my personal e-mail - "You can get through almost anything in life with three things: chocolate to give you energy, tea to calm you down and Duct tape to hold it all together." I left out the stitching part though - which is helpful with the cup of tea and the chocolate and can sometimes take the place of the Duct tape for holding it all together!

Laura J Perin Trunkshow Ends Sunday

Lilac Collage Sunday is the last day for Laura's trunkshow. We have several of her models from the Quilt, Impressionists and Collage collections and they always have more impact and beauty stitched than a photograph can ever render. We have the charts to go with them and any chart purchases or orders for Laura's designs during the trunkshow will receive a discount. You can see all of Laura's designs on her website.

Summer Hours

I have decided to continue our late Tuesday hours through the end of August so if you have one evening we're open until 8pm. We do have air conditioning so when it gets hot at your place this summer, come visit us and cool off.

We will be closed July 4th, which is a Saturday this year. Alameda has a parade that goes down our street so it's closed for most of the day. We will be open our regular hours the rest of that week and open Sunday as usual.

We have free Wi-Fi for when you or your companions need to use it.

Weekly Special

I am extending our last Weekly Special through June 8th. All of our Wichelt Betsy Ross Linen (aka Linen Hardanger), Wichelt Heatherfield, Wichelt Linen Silk and Zweigart Lincoln are on sale for 30% off their normal price. Wichelt has been paring down many of their fabrics so many of these will no longer be available once our inventory is gone. You'll find these fabrics in our on line catalog or you can give us a call to place an order. Minimum purchase is a quarter yard (if we have only a bit of something we'll let you know). We are out of several of the fabrics but still have some of each of them left so give them a good home!

The Sales page contains an item you can add to your shopping cart if you are ordering on-line that will include a note about that particular Weekly Special. You MUST MENTION the Weekly Special when you place your phone order or pay at the register. Remember, Weekly Specials are good on for what we have in-stock and unless otherwise noted, do not earn Rewards points. I update the Sales page, blog and send a Tweet for each Weekly Special.

What's New & Updates

As usual we have quite a few new things in the shop. Here's a snippet...

  • Blackbird Designs - 2009 Loose Feathers Club -- The first two designs have been released and we have them at the shop. If you've not signed up for the 2009 Club you can do so by calling the shop or on-line.
  • By The Bay Needlearts - The Nubble ($10)
  • Heart In Hand - What Makes It Spring, Christmas Markings
  • Just Another Button Company - The latest in the monthly series of Tea Cups; June ($11.50), July ($11) and August ($11)
  • Kit & Bixby - Mrs. McKenna's Farm
  • La D Da - Down By The Bay
  • Little House Needleworks - Alphabet Rhyme, Bee Sampler, Little Women Virtues; Strong and Beautiful
  • M Designs - Circle of Friends
  • The Needle's Prayse - English Whitework Sampler

Our latest Hoffman Distributing auto shipped so we'll have more new charts from several designers next week. And we're expecting a Europen CrossStitch order as well.

Just Nan's second release in the Over The Top Tin Club has been shipped. We still have room on our sign-up list for the 2009 series so if you missed signing up earlier, you can still do so. Just call us or go to the Over The Top Tin Club page.

If you saw my appearance on Discovery Channel's Mythbusters a few years back, you'll know we have carried Bone needles for some time. We'd had some difficulty getting them for a time but we have them available again. They are long and relatively thin (for a bone needle) and come 2/pkg ($5.50). Many people who do historical reenactments use them and they are handy as awls for needlework. If you never saw the Mythbusters episode just look to see when the Needle In A Haystack one is on again - they try to figure out how hard it is to find a needle in a haystack (quite fun to watch).

We are expecting some of our Zweigart backorders (mostly canvas) to come in the next couple of weeks. A container from Germany came to the states a week ago (to Zweigart in New Jersey) and our latest backorder list has been pared down a bit. We especially hopeful that the 18 count mono canvas is in there since none of the vendors in the states have any for a couple of months.

The Farmer's Market has been a big hit with its move to our neighborhood. I park on the other side of it so I walk through it to get to the shop. I can highly recommend the folks who come on Saturday with their wonderful sorbets. Each week it's a different set of flavors and it's great fun to try them all. La Farine, a great bakery in Oakland also comes Tuesday and Saturday and their Biscotti are fabulous.

On Saturdays you can park at the Hawthorne Suites at Pacific and Webster (1 block from the shop). The Farmer's Market runs from 9:30am - 1pm Tuesday and Saturday and if you want to do a little market shopping when you visit the shop you can stash your market purchases in our kitchen. It's a great way to combine some fun shopping into one trip.

Happy Stitching,
