Greetings,
I live in the path of quite a few Canadian
geese, who fly overhead on their way to and from the municipal golf course
several blocks away. Twice in the past week I've been outside as a V flew by in
the evening. Sometimes they are quite loud with their honking but one of the
recent fly-bys they honked once and then were silent. It's so wonderful to just
stand and hear their wings in the air, only a few feet above me. Very peaceful
and awe inspiring at the same time. I think if I could, I would fly away with
them just for a bit to see how much fun it is!
On a totally separate note - we have a new
staff person who started recently. Mary Frances Wogec is a wonderful
needleworker who has previously worked at Lacis and Poppy Fabrics. We're very
happy to have her join us on Saturdays and the occasional weekday. Even more
cool, her tiny knitting tablecloth is the cover feature on the latest
Piecework Magazine (see the cover below)! Mary Frances knits with
1 strand of Soie d'Alger for some very, very tiny objects. OK, so I thought I
liked fine needlework but I think I've been out "smalled"! Be sure to welcome
Mary Frances next time you are in the shop and if you're in the shop this
Saturday (8/29) she's going to bring in her tiny knitting needles so we can see
how she created such a tiny work of art. |

Be sure to stop by and visit our Stitch
'n Zip trunkshow from Alice Peterson. They are available in our
on-line
catalog so you can view the photos and/or order on-line if you're not able
to make it into the shop. The full kits come with the pre-finished silkscreen
design, threads, needle and instructions. Just stitch it up and if you want,
you can add some fabric to the inside when you're done to make an even nicer
finish. We also have blank pre-finished kits for the sizes that come that way
so you can create your own design. These are all 18 mesh on interlock canvas.
The thread in the kits is DMC floss and you don't even need to strip them down
- just stitch with all 6 strands intact.
If you purchase any of the Stitch 'n
Zip kits during the Trunkshow you will earn Double Stitching Has Its
Rewards points on your trunkshow purchases. These make great gifts for family
and friends and are quick to stitch up. |

I'm continuing to work on my Zecca purse.
The bird has some feathers now and about 1/4 of the background is done. I
forgot to bring it with me to the shop today to photograph, so next time. I've
not gotten back to Mary Wigham yet - the bird seems to have captured my
attention for the moment.
September 12th & 13th brings the
Webster Street Jam to our street. There will be vendors, food and music
during the 2 day event and we'll still have our Saturday Farmer's Market, but
on Webster Street instead. Details about all the Webster Street events can be
found on the West Alameda
Business Association web page.
Rachele came to see us this week with
Timothy, who is just over a year old now. We finished all the bears in the set
we stitched for his arrival - better late than never. So we took a picture of
all of them. Only the house is left to be stitched, but that's a pretty
detailed project and for a future date - maybe his 2nd birthday.
