It's December!

I have a hard time getting used to the idea that it's actually December already. Seems just a few weeks ago it was Summer - oh no, that was just the weather that felt like summer :-). Hopefully if you are one of the many who celebrates our US Thanksgiving you had a great day. I took the whole week off as did my spouse. We had a lovely "Staycation" in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. Since we worked about 5 office doors apart for about 11 years of that time we figure it's really closer to 50 or so. I was able to get in some quality stitching time in between a few fun local trips and even a little work around the house. Almost more exciting than our anniversary was the fact we got the garage cleaned up to put one of the cars in it for the first time since we can remember (ok, I can remember but I'm just too embarrassed to tell you).

Patrick's Woods - March 2010

Sherri Jones of Patrick's Woods will be teaching for us Sunday, March 21. Her Mermaid's Two Tales is a great project not only to stitch but to learn how to finish. We will be doing this as a pre-stitched project so that we can spend the day of the class actually putting the clam shell purse together. The class fee is due when you sign-up and then we'll send you the stitching portion of the kit. The finishing portion will be handed out at the class in March. You can sign-up online or by calling the shop. Your credit card will not be charged until we ship the pre-stitching portion of the kit to you. Sherri has some kits ready to send to us so we will be getting some shortly Come join us for what will be a very fun day.

What's New & Updates

As the year is winding down most of our vendors are working on new releases for after the first of the year at our two major winter trade shows. We'll be attending the Long Beach show in mid-January (mostly needlepoint and yarn) and then the Nashville show (mostly counted-thread) the 3rd week in February. So they're busy getting product ready for these shows and not a lot new will be coming in the next few weeks.

If you're on our auto for the Jeannette Douglas My Stitching Album, we have the remaining parts and they're going out to you in the next day or two. If you considered doing this piece we still have one complete set of charts and thread packs as well as the fabric needed for. Just give us a call or drop us an e-mail if you're interested.

  • Bent Creek - Santa and Dasher Photobooth
  • Jeannette Douglas Designs - Seaside Stitching Accessories & the accessory/thread pack
  • Tea Time - Jan/Feb 2010 issue

You can find quite a few newly released charts through the Hoffman Merchant Mall and you can place orders for anything in the Hoffman on-line catalog. You're also welcome to check out our other 2 main distributors, Norden Crafts and Wichelt Imports to see what's new or what other fun things are available we've not mentioned.

If you're a local customer you might be interested in the Alameda Family Services Holiday Home Tour which takes place Saturday December 12th. This is a fund raiser for the non-profit and you get to see some lovely homes decorated for the holidays. Tickets are available at the shop and are $30 (cash or check only since the funds go directly to Alameda Family Services). We also have a lovely live tree in the shop decorated by them as part of our West Alameda Business Association's efforts to help make our non-profits more visible.

I mentioned in a previous newsletter that we will be closed for a long weekend over the Christmas Holiday. We'll be open on December 24th from 11-2 and then closed until Tuesday December 29th. One of the staff has offered to take appointments for shopping on Saturday December 26th and Sunday December 27th. So if you're in town for only those days or have relatives visiting you can make an appointment to come to the shop. Please let us know before we close on the 24th so we make the arrangements.

And on a really fun note - as a baker I'm a big fan of the Food Network's Ace of Cakes. An episode that aired last night featured a stocking cake made for a woman who had stitched Shepherd's Bush stockings for all the members of her family. If you didn't catch the episode (Merry Cakemas) it will air again Dec. 6, 8 & 9th. Check the Food Network website for times.
