Needle In A
Haystack News

"Egg"cellent Spring greetings,

The shop celebrates its 12th Anniversary on Saturday and we will be holding our annual "Egg"cellent Anniversary sale Saturday thru Monday. If you've not participated in our prior "Egg"cellent sales we put discounts in plastic Easter Eggs and you pick an egg when you check out. Inside will be your discount - from 15% to 30% off most regular merchandise (fabric, threads, charts, notions, canvases & accessories). Books and Magazines will be 10% off. The sale is limited to in-stock items only and excludes items already on hold, already marked down, trunkshows, classes and finishing.

Easter EggsMail order customers with orders placed between March 28th and March 30th will have an "Egg"cellent egg pulled for them and that will be the discount for appropriate items from that order. The discount will be applied when we ship the order so it will not show up in your shopping cart. If you've ever been in the store you'll know that only a fraction of our inventory is listed on our website. We are not able to do stock checks during the sale so if you're shopping via phone or the web and don't see something you're looking for, just let us know what it is and if we have it, we'll include it in your order.

Stop by and visit us during the sale, either in person, by phone or on-line and help us celebrate our 12th Anniversary!

Last week I mentioned the new line of Gloriana Threads silk called Florimell (hand-dyed Au Ver a Soie brand Soie d'Alger). I'm stitching an Ink Circles design This Heart of Mine with Flowers of Italy and I thought I'd show you the little bit I've gotten done (the upper left corner). This is done with one strand over two on 40 count Ivory Graziano linen (Ricamo). You'll find Florimell in our online catalog

JBW French County PearI've started work on turning my little JBW Designs projects (stitched with the Society of Soie Surfine threads) into their final soldered forms. The photo at right shows what they look like when I've cut the glass (I do buy the beveled glass but cut the backing glass) and foiled them, which is when I've applied the copper foil to the glass edges. The foil has a sticky back so it makes it easy to apply to the glass, although I do have to line it up by eye to keep the edges reasonably straight. The foil has straight edges so I use a wave cutter for paper/fabric to create a more interesting edge. Once this step is done on all of them I apply flux to the copper then use the soldering iron to apply the solder. Solder only comes in a silver color and since I use lead free solder most of the products used to create a patina don't really work to change the color. So I just leave them the silver color they turn out. I'm hoping to get the rest of the little pieces foiled and soldered over the weekend. I'll include some photos in the next newsletter and on the Society blog when I get them done. The glass the pear is encased in is 2" x 3", so a nice little ornament size.

Happy Stitching,
