I have finally gotten my act together
enough to post the class
sign-up page for Jeannette Douglas's Common
Thread. Jeannette will be here the weekend of Halloween
for this really amazing little sampler. I've had the opportunity to see
2 of the variants of it stitched and if you like working on tighter
count
linens, she's making the class kit available in 36 count as well as the
32 count it was designed for.The piece is one Jeannette "personalizes" for the region she's teaching it in so ours will have some features with a San Francisco/West Coast theme. We've already talked about the Golden Gate Bridge being part of it and I think the rest will be a surprise. This is a 2-day class as there are a lot of stitches to cover - I know it's at least 30 of them I think probably closer to 40. This is a counted-thread piece so the ability to follow a chart is required, otherwise it's a great learning piece even for a relatively new counted-thread stitcher. The class is $225 and includes the kit as well as lunch both days. A $50 non-refundable deposit is due when you sign-up. The balance of $175 will be due 1 month prior to the class, when we'll send the fabric to you. Jeannette likes us to send the fabric out in advance so that if you wish to baste grid lines into your fabric or mount it on scroll-rods, you can do that ahead of time. The fabric will measure about 14x15 so this is not a big piece in terms of size, but it certainly packs a great stitching punch! You can sign-up online, via e-mail, fax or phone. As we are providing lunch with the class if you have any food allergies we should be aware of, please let us know when you sign-up. Come join us Halloween weekend for what will be a really amazing and fun class with Jeannette! |

Thank you to
those who have already donated to my MDA Lock-Up, which was this week.
I didn't quite make the goal set for my "bail" but they still
let me return to the shop!
Several people came to watch me get hauled away and I was little worried about the cheering that seemed to ensue, especially from my husband! Our local police had great fun participating in the event, even taking advantage of a photo op - and yes, those are real hand-cuffs! You can still make a donation via my MDA LockUp page or if you stop by the shop we can take checks (payable to MDA) or cash to send to them. Please do consider making a donation to a great cause. |
![]() I managed to get some of my soldering done on
my Soie
Surfine pieces. I forgot to take photos of all of them but I'll do
that for next time. The photo at left is JBW's French
Country Amor,
which I turned into a necklace. There's more info about it and the
next little piece I just finished, on the Society
of Soie Surfine blog.I had a couple of people ask me about kits for these. My necklaces all hand-made from scratch so there are no kits. The designs are various cross-stitch charts I thought would be great as smalls and I cut the glass for them, although I do buy the beveled glass. Then I put copper foil around the edge, flux then solder the pieces. The last steps are to attach the rings with solder and wire wrap the baubles. There are some glass finishing pieces on the market these days, although not nearly the same as a hand-made piece. Gloria at Milady's Needle has two new designs that use a hinged glass pendant frame, which is small enough to make into a necklace and these don't require soldering. Quaker Pendants I is pictured above. You can read more about them on her blog and we have the designs in the store. They come with one of the pendant frames but we can order more. After finishing up the front of my Zecca purse I have started on the back half. I'm done with the lower right corner, which repeats the purple from the bird on the front. My plan is do as much of the background in Byzantine to unify the many squares. It does mean a bit of compensation here and there but I think it will be worth it. This makes a big change of pace from my little Soie Surfine smalls! Happy Stitching, Cathe The Floss Queen's Blog ...and Debi, Leila, Jennifer, Ali, Mary, Mary Frances, Caroline, Susan and Margaret |
