Next Open Sundays

October 1
November 5
This weekend in our Open Sunday for October. Yikes - it's already the end of September! Before you know it they'll start playing Christmas music in the big box stores. Personally I don't want to hear it until after Thanksgiving, although I don't mind seeing the merchandise.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays - I just like the whimsical nature of it. So Cymone and Marissa decorated our Halloween Spooky Tree with some fun little ghost lights I got at Paper Source this week. And then made a whole Halloween display around it. We love that in a needlework shop there's always a holiday to decorate for.

New Things & News

DMC floss 2017 new colors

DMC announced that they are releasing 35 new colors in November. We don't know the numbers they will use but we did get a photo from one of our distributors so we have some clue what they look like. If you are interested in pre-order them we have add a 2017 pack to the online catalog. These will be sold as individual skeins (unlike the 2013 colors) so if you want to wait to only order a few we'll add them separately when we know their names and real color numbers.

Yarn Tree Hook & Loop TapeYarn Tree has is introducing a new line of scroll frames which are now in production to replace the EZ Stitch line as American Dream Products is closed. They have also sourced a low profile version of hook & loop tape. Their rods will come with twill tape where the hook & loop is already attached to the twill tape. We will be getting the hook & loop tape soon and the rods, bars and knobs when they are out of production, which might be several weeks. If you are interested in any of these, just drop us a note and we'll let you know JCS Ornaments issuewhen we get them. We'll add them to the online catalog soon as we get pricing on all the parts. They will be compatible with the EZ Stitch scroll frames.

Here are a few of the Zecca canvases I came back from Destination Dallas with. The line drawn canvases from are essentially a way to play with color. Think a coloring book, which is popular for adults, with thread. The Bee Kind canvas she had a stitched model of what she'd done. Each canvas comes with a printed copy of the canvas so you can photocopy it, color it in and then pick your thread colors. Karen first did these last year and has since expanded the range of designs. Each of these is $31.00.

We're gearing up for our next class event in 2 weeks with Kathy Rees. I'm finishing up putting the kits together. If you find that you are able to make the class let us know ASAP so we can make up a kit in the colorway you want.

Fall is my favorite time of year so I'm looking forward to cooler days (at some point) and what little leave color change we get. I do miss seeing the great colors on the east coast (where I traveled regularly in my high-tech days). But I think I can manage with our California weather. Especially since I'm grateful for not having been affected by any storms or fires as so many people have been.

I hope you are able to find some time to stitch. I'm taking a break for awhile as I try to let my right wrist heal - fortunately it's not carpal tunnel, but my doctor said I've seriously overworked it (like stitching, typing, beading, gardening and baking might have anything to do with it).

Happy Stitching!

Kathy Rees 2017 Class

HarmonyKathy Rees will be here October 14 & 15th teaching Harmony, the second in a class series (Serenity was first which she taught for us in 2015). Even if you've not done counted canvas work before, Kathy will guide you through all of the stitches in the project. You'll find alternative colorways on the sign up page for the class so you can let us know which color palette to kit for you. This is a 2-day class and does require your physical attendance (we cannot send kits away).

You can sign-up for any of the classes now. You find more detail through our Classes page or you can contact the shop.

Parking at 2433 Mariner Square Loop

We have two parking lots for the office complex. One is off Mariner Square Drive on the courtyard side of the building. The other is behind building #2417, which is next to us. There is no dedicated handicapped parking in either lot and the best place to park for a really flat surface is in the back lot and come in the Mariner Square Loop door. Yes, we are at the corner of Mariner Square Loop, Marina Village Parkway and Mariner Square Drive (go figure!). We keep both doors unlocked during store hours. There is no metered parking here to worry about - it's the two lots and plenty of street parking on Mariner Square Drive. Our complex sits directly on top of the Webster Tube so if you have trouble with your GPS finding us we're 1 block from the Target store (and not in the shopping center).
